DID YOU KNOW?

  • Children in foster care have an increased risk of experiencing homelessness.

  • 1 in 10 young adults age 18-25 experience some form of homelessness unaccompanied by a parent or guardian over the course of a year, and 33% of these homeless young people had once been a part of the foster care system.

  • Only 1 out of every 2 foster kids who age out of the system will have some form of gainful employment by the age of 24, and there is less than a 3% chance for children who have aged out of foster care to earn a college degree at any point in their life.

  • As rates rise, to better understand and address youth homelessness in Colorado, services must be integrated within systems such as school, foster care, and legal involvement and must be tailored to meet the unique needs of homeless and at-risk youth.

  • Movement 5280 is working with local partners to identify ways to safely increase access to medical care, housing, and food services for the most vulnerable members of the community. Movement 5280 is a part of Change the Trend collaboration in the City of Englewood.

THIS IS SHAY

Katrishay Quarles (Shay)- Shay was one of original youth in 2010. Shay lost her life on the streets of Denver. Shay was a bright light that encouraged other teens, even though the struggles in her own life seemed insurmountable to her at times. Movement 5280 exists for youth like Shay: those who come from backgrounds that have impacted them in such a manner they see no hope for a better future, let alone help for their current circumstances. Shay was one who knew she was loved and we miss her.
