What We Do

Our UNique Focus

Movement 5280’s unique focus is to be a “family of support” for at-risk and unhoused youth and young adults. Additionally, as a recovery community organization, we embrace a holistic approach, offering individualized, long-term support irrespective of age. Our commitment is to create a nurturing and inclusive community that recognizes the inherent worth and potential of every individual.

Our three program types

At Movement 5280, everything we do fits into one of three categories. First, we focus on Survive, ensuring that everyone’s basic needs are met. Next we move into Thrive, where we support individual’s personal growth in mental health, recovery, and life & job skills, helping them reach their full potential. Finally, in our Revive programs, we offer continued growth through bible studies and Lost & Found Church, a safe place where people can come as they are, experience relationships, and seek Hope found in Jesus.

We serve nutritious family-style meals six days a week to ensure no one in our community goes hungry. Our meal services not only provide nourishment but also foster a sense of belonging and support. Come and join us; we would love to share a meal with you.

Movement 5280 has a clothing bank that is accessible to anyone who comes through our doors. It is set up in a way that is dignified, and it also allows for a true shopping experience! It also includes blankets, sleeping bags, and hand warmers for those cold winter nights. We also have another shopping area with household items for our community members receiving housing. We are always accepting donations for our clothing bank!

Movement 5280 has a shower trailer on-site on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. This allows for our friends experiencing homelessness to have a warm shower, which is often hard to come by while on the streets. We are currently raising funds to have our own showers inside the building. Stay tuned!

Join us at the pantry, where we offer a variety of food including dairy, meat, non-perishables and more, to help ensure food security. There’s always lots of love at the table.

Movement 5280 loves to make snack packs to send out with our friends so they are never hungry! These snack packs are often something that we have volunteer groups make. We also have outreach teams take these snack packs out to unhoused individuals with letters of encouragement and information about Movement 5280.

As you can imagine, living on the streets is exhausting. The community members we serve are often in survival mode. Daily, they try to find food to eat, and a place to sleep where they are safe. Some days they don’t find this and are awake all night. At Movement 5280, we provide a place where clients can rest peacefully knowing they are safe. This time of rest is so needed and provides our clients the energy they need to continue to survive and work towards stability.

*Please note that Movement 5280 does not offer overnight sheltering.

One of the biggest barriers that unhoused individuals run into is losing IDs, birth certificates, and social security cards. When you don’t have these types of documents, everything is more difficult. You can’t apply for jobs, benefits, housing, etc. Movement 5280 helps clients by ordering these documents, paying for them, and keeping copies safely stored in files so they won’t get lost or stolen again. We have the mobile DMV come to our location once a month and provide ID services for those who can’t simply order a new one online. We are also “identifiers” which means clients who do not have all their needed documents can have a Movement 5280 staff member confirm their identities to obtain their much needed IDs.

Movement 5280 recognizes the importance of access to computers an Wi-Fi. This allows individuals to reach out to family and friends, apply for jobs, apply for housing, check emails, stay connected with resources, etc. We have computers connected to our Wi-Fi that community members can use when we are open. We also use computers to teach classes such as how to build a resume. This is extremely beneficial to our unhoused and at-risk community.

Movement 5280’s personal navigators are trained to help clients apply for food stamps, Medicaid, social security, and disability. We also help clients obtain free phones that are government-provided. These are all extremely important to help our clients find stability financially. Many of our clients qualify for these services but struggle to access them. This is one of the first steps we can help clients with to help them go from just surviving, to thriving.

survive

Movement 5280 takes a very holistic approach to helping clients. We recognize the importance of mental health, especially with the stressors our community members face. We provide on-site individual counseling as well as group therapy. The cost is covered entirely by Movement 5280 so clients do not have to pay or provide insurance to see a licensed counselor.

Movement 5280 partners with an amazing dentist who comes once a month to provide cleanings and dental work. There is zero cost for clients. This is a big deal as many clients, especially those who are unhoused, may not have seen a dentist in many years.

Movement 5280 has a partnership with a barber who comes the first Wednesday of every month and provides haircuts at no charge for all of those who need them!

Many of the individuals who come to Movement 5280 have not had the opportunity to learn basic life and job skills. Alongside our job readiness program, we also provide classes that cover various topics and skills, such as computer classes, cooking classes, resume building classes, budgeting, etc. This helps clients as they work toward independence and stability.

Movement 5280 recognizes the importance of nontraditional counseling that can be a bit less intimidating to clients and more exciting. We have art therapy once a week on-site and through our partnership with Mustard Seed Ranch we are able to take a group to equine assisted therapy once a week. These programs support the mental health of our clients in a fun and exciting way.

Our goal for each participant in our job readiness program is for them to be able to thrive in life, by attaining new skills and growing as a person, becoming a successful adult. Participants will receive mentorship, feedback, management, and opportunities to practice job skills in an environment that feels safe and encouraging for them before helping them apply for jobs. Our goal is to mock an entry-level job environment with individualized guidance. Through participating in the job readiness program, individuals gain needed skills and work on preparing for the next step of independence.

Personal navigators work with individuals to achieve their goals, including finding housing, finding a job, receiving Medicaid and food stamps, working towards sobriety, and more. Our personal navigators are equipped with knowledge and resources to help each unique individual achieve their goals and move from a place of surviving to thriving.

Movement 5280 is one of only a few places that can place clients in Colorado’s housing queue and work with organizations to find housing for unhoused clients. We also help clients apply for housing lotteries and apartments. When we can, we provide help with deposits and rent or provide referrals to organizations that can assist.

thrive

Movement 5280 focuses on being a family. This means celebrating together as often as we can! We celebrate birthdays, holidays, personal milestones, and more! If it’s a positive thing, it is getting celebrated by this community family!

Movement 5280 has a weekly church service our community members named Lost & Found church; a safe place where people can come as they are, ask questions, experience relationships, and seek Hope found in Jesus. Jesus is at the center of everything we do and the reason we do all of what we do.

Movement 5280 knows the struggles of addiction and wants to walk alongside individuals who want to work toward sobriety. We do this by providing one-on-one support and weekly groups with our peer recovery coaches. We also provide Celebrate Recovery, a Christ-centered recovery program for anyone with hurts, habits, or addictions. No one should have to fight alone and at Movement 5280 we hope to provide many various avenues and steps to working towards sobriety.
